Our Craft

Meaning deserves beauty. Beauty demands craft.

YukDao is not selling gemstones. We are helping people carry meaning — symbols of prosperity, protection, connection, and focus — through objects built to be worn for years, not seasons.

That is only possible if we take the making as seriously as the meaning.

Every piece begins with a stone chosen for its character, is strung by hand, and is inspected before it ever reaches you. This page explains how, and why.

The Workshop

Where Pieces Are Made

Each YukDao piece is hand-strung in our partner workshop, where every bracelet and mala passes through the hands of a small team before it ships to our US warehouse for fulfilment.

We work with a small, dedicated team rather than a mass-production facility.

Scale, for us, is not the goal.
Consistency is.

Understanding Our Stones

Every stone we use is graded before it becomes a bracelet.

What “AAA Grade” Means

In the gemstone trade, grading reflects clarity, colour consistency and surface quality — not magical potency.

AAA-grade stones show:

  • Minimal visible inclusions
  • Strong, even colour saturation
  • Smooth, well-finished surfaces
  • Consistent size and shape within a strand

Lower grades may show dull colour, visible cracks or uneven finishing.

We select AAA-grade material because it holds up to daily wear and wears the way a considered object should.

Where Our Stones Come From

We are building direct relationships with our stone suppliers across Asia and will share more about our sourcing as those relationships mature.

A perfectly uniform bead is usually a sign of glass, resin or dye. Not stone.

Natural Variation

Why No Two Pieces Are Identical

Natural stone is not manufactured to a uniform standard, and that is the point.

You may notice slight variation in colour depth, subtle internal patterns or small differences in bead size between your piece and another customer’s.

This is not a flaw. It is the signature of a natural material.

If your piece arrives with a genuine defect such as a visible crack or shipping damage, that is different — and covered under our guarantee.

Components

What We Use, and Why

Cord

High-tensile elastic braided with polyester fibre — chosen for durability, comfort and the ability to hold its shape through years of wear.

Metal & Spacers

18k gold-plated brass and sterling silver components. We avoid base metals prone to tarnish or skin reactions wherever possible.

Why Materials Matter

A meaningful object that falls apart within weeks undermines its own meaning.

We choose materials for longevity first.

The Making

How a Bracelet Is Made

Each piece is strung by hand, one bead at a time.

Bead Selection

Before stringing, beads are sorted by colour consistency and surface quality.

Stringing

Beads are threaded onto cord with attention to spacing and secure knotting.

Quality Checkpoints

Before approval:

  • Cord tension
  • Bead alignment
  • Knot security
  • Overall finish

Why Hand-Strung

Machines produce consistency.

Hands produce judgement.

That difference matters.

If a piece does not meet our standard, it is not shipped.

Inspection

Before Anything Ships

Every piece is inspected before leaving for our US warehouse.

We check:

  • Stone quality
  • Bead alignment
  • Cord integrity
  • Spacer security
  • Overall finish

If a piece does not meet our standard, it is not shipped.

Longevity

Built to Be Worn, Not Just Bought

Stone

Natural stone is durable under normal wear.

Cord

Expect approximately 2 to 5 years before restringing becomes necessary.

Spacers

Gold-plated and sterling components retain their finish with gentle care; patina develops slowly over years of daily wear.

What Aging Looks Like

Cord may soften.

Stone may develop a natural patina.

This is normal.

Sizing

Sizing Is Permanent. Here’s How to Get It Right.

Because YukDao ships between Hong Kong and the United States, we cannot offer resizing or size exchanges. Use the illustration below to measure your wrist.

SizeWrist CircumferenceBead Configuration
Delicate5–6.5”Smaller beads, closer fit
Standard5.5–7”Our most popular fit
Bold6–8”Larger beads, looser drape

If you’re between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up for comfort.

Care

Caring for Your Piece

Daily Wear

  • Remove before swimming
  • Avoid prolonged sunlight
  • Avoid perfume and lotions

Cleaning

  • Soft dry cloth
  • Barely damp cloth if necessary
  • Never ultrasonic cleaners

Storage

Store inside the pouch or presentation box away from heat.

With proper care, your piece is built to accompany years of wear.
