What Your Free BaZi Chart Shows
This free BaZi calculator turns your birth date, time and place into a complete Four Pillars of Destiny chart — no account needed. Your result includes:
- Your Four Pillars — the year, month, day and hour of your birth, each written as a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch pair, with your Chinese zodiac animal from the Year Pillar.
- Your Day Master — the element at the centre of your chart, with a plain-language summary of what it says about your nature.
- Your Five Elements balance — how Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are distributed across your chart, and which elements are strongest and quietest.
- Your supportive elements — the elements that traditionally help your Day Master work at its best.
- Personality insights and guidance — a structured reading of your natural strengths, tendencies and favourable colours, drawn from the Zi Ping tradition.
The chart is calculated instantly in your browser session and is not stored unless you choose to save it. Long-range timing layers such as the ten-year Luck Pillars (Da Yun) are part of a saved My YukDao reading, not this free chart.
Understanding the Four Pillars of Destiny
BaZi, also called the Four Pillars of Destiny, describes the moment of birth as four columns of time. Each column pairs a Heavenly Stem with an Earthly Branch.
Year Pillar — the broadest layer, linked with family background and the wider world you were born into. Its Branch gives your familiar zodiac animal.
Month Pillar — sets the season, which decides which elements are naturally strong or quiet.
Day Pillar — holds the Day Master, the centre of the chart, and is traditionally linked with close relationships.
Hour Pillar — the most personal time layer, associated with inner aims and later development.
Your Day Master and Five Element Balance
Your Day Master is read through the Five Elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Wood feeds Fire, Fire creates Earth, Earth bears Metal, Metal carries Water and Water nourishes Wood; each element also restrains another.
Balance is not about having equal amounts of every element. A traditional reading asks how well the Day Master is supported by the season and the rest of the chart, and which elements help the whole pattern work more smoothly.
How YukDao Calculates Your BaZi Chart
We start from your birth date, birth time and birthplace. The birthplace lets us account for the local time zone and historical daylight saving, and the solar calendar decides where one month ends and the next begins.
From there we build your Four Pillars, identify your Day Master and assess your elemental balance within the Zi Ping tradition. The result is a structured portrait to reflect on — not a prediction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BaZi chart?
- A BaZi chart, 八字 or “Eight Characters”, translates your birth year, month, day and hour into four pairs of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. Read together, they describe a pattern of elements rather than a fixed fate.
What are the Four Pillars?
- The Four Pillars are the Year, Month, Day and Hour of birth. Each pillar holds one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch, giving the eight characters that form the chart.
What is a Day Master?
- The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar. It is the chart's point of reference: the other elements are read by how they support, express, control or challenge it.
Why does birth time matter?
- Your birth time sets the Hour Pillar. Without it the chart has only six of its eight characters, so any reading that depends on the Hour Pillar should be treated with more caution.
Does the YukDao BaZi calculator use True Solar Time?
- No. YukDao calculates your chart from the clock time at your birthplace, using that location's time zone and its historical daylight saving rules — so a summer-time birth is corrected automatically and you never need to adjust anything yourself. We do not apply a True Solar Time or longitude correction on top of that. The Sun's exact astronomical position is used where it matters most in BaZi: fixing the boundaries of the solar months and the BaZi year.
How does BaZi calculate births between 11 PM and 1 AM?
- The hours from 11 PM to 1 AM form the Zi hour, the first of the twelve double-hours. In the YukDao calculator the Day Pillar normally changes at local midnight, with one classical exception: a birth between 11 PM and midnight is already counted as the next day's Day Pillar, because the new day is considered to begin with the Zi hour. A birth between midnight and 1 AM simply belongs to that calendar day.
Does the BaZi year start on Chinese New Year or Li Chun?
- BaZi years begin at Li Chun, the Start of Spring solar term, which falls around February 4 — not on Chinese New Year. If you were born in January or in the first days of February before Li Chun, your Year Pillar belongs to the previous BaZi year. This is also why a BaZi chart can differ from our Chinese Zodiac Calculator, which follows the Chinese New Year boundary instead.
