Privacy Policy

YukDao · 鈺道 offers Chinese Zodiac, Five Elements, BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, compatibility and Meihua / I Ching experiences. To create them we need birth details, and sometimes details about the other people you ask about.

We use that information to give you the readings you ask for. We do not sell it. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use profiles you create for other people, including children, for marketing of any kind.

Two features, compatibility follow-up questions and Meihua interpretations, use a third-party AI model. We explain below what we send to it.

Our newsletter, The YukDao Letter, is optional. You can unsubscribe at any time without affecting your account.

You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information, whichever US state or country you live in. Some deletion steps are currently handled by request rather than in your account settings. Section 12 explains what happens when you delete something.

YukDao is an independently operated digital platform offering Chinese astrology, personal insights, and related services.

This Policy explains how we collect, use, share, keep and protect personal information when you:

• visit yukdao.com;
• request a BaZi report or an I Ching (Meihua) reading, with or without an account;
• create a member account and saved profiles;
• request BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, compatibility or Meihua / I Ching readings, or ask follow-up questions;
• subscribe to The YukDao Letter; or
• contact us.

It does not cover websites or services run by others, even if we link to them.

3.1 Information you give us

3.2 Information we create

When you request a reading, we generate results from the information above. These include Zodiac and Five Elements results; BaZi charts, interpretations, life-cycle and luck-pillar information; Zi Wei Dou Shu charts; compatibility findings and the “Heart Score”; and Meihua castings and interpretations. Some reports are saved as a fixed “snapshot” that includes the birth details used, so that a reading stays consistent if you view it later.

Astrological results are interpretations within a cultural tradition. They are not facts about you, and we do not treat them as such.

3.3 Information collected automatically

When you use the website, our hosting provider and Google Analytics automatically receive technical information. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, and interaction events. Section 8 explains cookies and analytics.

3.4 Sensitive information

Some information you choose to give us may be considered sensitive under certain laws, depending on what it reveals. For example, partner profiles may reveal your relationships, and a question you type may mention your health, finances or personal circumstances. We use this information only to provide the reading or answer you requested, and as otherwise described in Section 5.2. We do not use it to infer health conditions, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, financial difficulty or other personal vulnerabilities. We do not use it for marketing or advertising. Please avoid typing details you would prefer not to share, especially about other people.

Members can create profiles for partners, family members, friends, children and others. You should add someone only if you have their permission, or another proper reason and the authority to do so, such as being a child’s parent or guardian. Please do not upload another person’s photograph without their permission, and do not upload photographs of children unless you are their parent or guardian.

We treat profiles you create for other people as follows:

• We use them only to produce the readings and reports you request, and to show them to you.
• We never add the people in them to our newsletter, contact them, or use their information for marketing, recommendations to others, advertising or audience building.
• Profiles labelled as a child, and any profile of a person under 18, are never used for personalisation or marketing of any kind.
• When you ask a compatibility follow-up question, the display names of both people are included in what we send to our AI provider (Section 6).

If you believe someone has entered information about you, you can contact us (Section 19). We will help where we reasonably can. This may include deleting the information. Because profiles are linked to another person’s account, we may need to verify your identity, and we will not disclose that person’s account details to you.

5.1 To provide the Services you request

• Creating, securing and administering your account.
• Saving profiles and calculating charts, readings and reports.
• Geocoding birth places and determining time zones.
• Generating AI-assisted interpretations and answers (Section 6).
• Sending service emails, such as account verification, password reset and messages about your readings.
• Responding to your requests and providing support.

5.2 To operate and protect the Services

• Monitoring performance, fixing errors and keeping the Services secure.
• Preventing abuse, fraud and misuse.
• Understanding, in aggregate, how the website is used, so that we can improve it (Section 8).
• Keeping records of email choices.
• Complying with law and responding to lawful requests.

5.3 To send The YukDao Letter

If you are subscribed, we use your email address to send The YukDao Letter. It contains essays on Chinese wisdom, seasonal guidance, and news about YukDao readings and products, including occasional offers. See Section 7.

5.4 What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we have no advertising pixels on our website.
• We do not use profiles you create for other people, including children, for any marketing purpose.
• Apart from the element labels described in Section 7, we do not use your birth details, charts or readings to tailor marketing to you. No other such feature exists today (Section 17).

Rule-based calculations. Chinese Zodiac, Five Elements, BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu charts are calculated using rule-based methods from the traditional calendar systems.

AI-assisted features. Two features currently use a generative AI model: compatibility follow-up questions, and Meihua / I Ching interpretations and follow-up questions. For these, we send the information needed to answer through Lovable’s AI gateway to a Google Gemini model.

• Compatibility follow-ups: we send the two people’s display names, their Four Pillars characters, element and compatibility findings, the Heart Score, the report narrative, your question, and the earlier conversation. We do not send birth dates, birth times, birth places, coordinates or time zones.
• Meihua / I Ching: we send your question, the hexagrams cast, and the earlier conversation.

We store your questions and the generated answers in our database so that you can see your conversation again. This includes I Ching readings made without an account, which are linked to your browser by a private token.

Our AI providers process this content under their own service terms, which govern whether and for how long they keep it.

AI-generated text can be wrong, incomplete or inconsistent, and it reflects an interpretive tradition, not verified fact.

Service emails. We send emails needed to run your account and the Services, such as verification, password reset, security notices and messages about readings you requested. These are not marketing, and they continue while you have an account.

The YukDao Letter. The Letter is optional. At present, our account signup form includes a box to tick if you do not want to receive the Letter, and new members who leave it unticked are subscribed. We are replacing this with a box you tick only if you want to subscribe. If you were subscribed this way and do not wish to receive the Letter, use the unsubscribe link in any issue.

How we send it. We send the Letter and Journal announcements through Beehiiv and through our email delivery service (Lovable’s email service, which uses Resend). We share your email address, subscription status and sign-up source with Beehiiv for that purpose.

Element-tailored emails. If you have a BaZi chart for your own profile, it identifies a main element and two supporting elements (for example “Water”, supported by “Metal” and “Wood”). At present, if you are subscribed and have a BaZi chart for your own profile, we store your main element and two supporting elements with your subscription, share them with Beehiiv, and may use them to choose which emails you receive. We are changing this to an optional setting that is off unless you turn it on. To have your element labels removed now, contact us.

We only ever use elements from your own profile, never from profiles you created for other people. We never share birth dates, birth times, birth places, full charts, luck pillars, questions, photographs or anything about other people’s profiles with Beehiiv.

Unsubscribing. Every issue contains an unsubscribe link that works without signing in. Unsubscribing stops promotional emails. It does not delete your account or readings. We keep a minimal record that you unsubscribed so that we do not email you again by mistake.

Email measurement. Like most email services, Beehiiv may record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked.

We use a small number of technologies:

We have configured Google Analytics to remove private report links from the data it receives. Google processes analytics data under its own terms. See policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

We do not use advertising cookies, social-media pixels or retargeting technologies. If we ever want to, we will update this Policy and offer the choices required by law beforehand.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Our website does not currently change its behaviour in response to browser “Do Not Track” signals. Because we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, we have nothing to opt you out of today.

We share personal information only as follows.

Service providers. These organisations process information on our behalf to run the Services:

Private report links. BaZi reports are opened with a private link. We email this link to the address used to request the report. Anyone who has the link can open the report, which may show birth details. Please share it only with people you trust. These links do not currently expire. We are adding expiry and revocation.

Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of users, YukDao or others, or to investigate fraud or security issues.

Business transfers. If YukDao is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. It will remain subject to this Policy, or to a notice we give you.

With your direction. We share information when you ask us to.

We do not sell personal information. We do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, as California law uses that term. We do not process personal information for targeted advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this Policy. We currently keep this information until it is deleted by you or at your request. Unsubscribe and suppression records are kept as long as needed to honour your choice.

Photos. You can remove a profile photo at any time. This deletes the stored image file.

Profiles. You can delete a profile you created. Deleting a profile deletes its photo, its Zi Wei Dou Shu readings, and any compatibility report (with its follow-up conversation) that includes the profile. Please note: BaZi reports created from a profile are not currently deleted when the profile is deleted. They keep a copy of the birth details and chart, and remain reachable through their private link. To have them deleted, contact us at yukdao.enquiry@gmail.com. We are changing this so that they are deleted with the profile.

Individual readings. Contact us to delete an individual report or reading.

Your account. To delete your account, email yukdao.enquiry@gmail.com from the address on the account. We will delete your profiles, readings, reports, photos and conversations, and unsubscribe you from the Letter. We keep only a minimal suppression record so that we do not email you again.

If you do not have an account. If you requested a BaZi report or subscribed without an account, contact us from the same email address and we will delete what we hold. I Ching readings made without an account are linked only to a private token in your browser, not to your name or email. Send us the reading’s link and we will do our best to locate and delete it.

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we hold. These include:

• database access rules that limit each member to their own records;
• ownership checks before reports can be viewed through your account;
• private storage for profile photos, viewable only through links that expire after 60 minutes;
• passwords stored by our authentication service in encrypted form, never in plain text; and
• restricting administrative access to authorised systems and personnel.

Our systems can technically access stored records to run the Services. That access is limited to server-side functions and authorised operations. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you and authorities as required by law.

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• access the personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy in a portable format;
• correct information that is inaccurate. You can also edit most profile details yourself;
• delete your personal information (Section 12);
• stop marketing emails at any time (Section 7); and
• ask questions about how we handle your information.

How to make a request. Email yukdao.enquiry@gmail.com from the email address on your account, or describe your relationship to the information if you do not have an account. If we need longer than usual to respond, we will tell you why. To protect you, we verify requests before acting on them, usually by confirming control of the email address on the account. We will not ask for more information than we need.

Authorised agents. You may use an authorised agent. We may ask for proof of the agent’s authority and ask you to confirm your identity directly.

Appeals. If we decline your request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying with “Appeal” in the subject line. If you remain unsatisfied, you may contact your state attorney general or data protection authority.

No discrimination. We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

14.1 Additional information for residents of certain US states

In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act:

Sources: you, the people who add profiles, your device, and our service providers. Purposes: those in Section 5. Retention: Section 11. We do not sell or share personal information (Section 10). We use sensitive personal information only to provide the Services you request and for security and other purposes permitted by law, not to infer characteristics about you.

YukDao is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and our Services are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete its information.

Adult members may create profiles for their own children or other young people, for example to explore a family compatibility reading. Section 4 explains how we limit the use of those profiles. Child profiles are never used for marketing, personalisation or advertising, and we discourage uploading children’s photographs. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child’s information has been provided to us inappropriately, please contact us and we will delete it.

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those where you live.

We may later offer optional features such as choosing topics you care about (for example Love & Relationships or Career & Purpose), or recommendations of readings and products based on your own chart. These features are not available today. We will not switch them on for you automatically. Before launching any of them, we will update this Policy and ask for your choice in a separate, clear way. Profiles you create for other people will not be used for these features.

We may update this Policy as our Services change. We will post the new version with a new effective date. If we make a material change, we will give you notice before it takes effect, for example by email or a notice when you sign in. If we want to use information we already hold in a materially different way, we will ask for your consent first.
